The Problem of Traffic

Matrix’s traffic study inaccurately reflects the number of trips generated and the distribution of these added trips.

Matrix does not adequately address the safety issues created by additional traffic volume, especially in front of Cheltenham Elementary School. The increased traffic volume will affect the safe drop-off and pick-up of Cheltenham Elementary schoolchildren. Children walking to school will face more hazardous crossings at all intersections.

Cheltenham Elementary dismisses at 3:40 PM, but Matrix took the afternoon traffic counts from 4 PM to 6 PM. Traffic conditions in this area are worse at school dismissal time.

No accident data was provided for high volume intersections.

Matrix’s projection for an improved level of service at Ashbourne Road/Front Street/ Ashmeade Road/Arbor Road intersection (from Level F to Level D) is unrealistic.

The intersection of Central Ave./Tookany Creek Parkway/Ashbourne Road is not included in the eight intersections evaluated in Matrix‘s traffic study. This intersection is less than ½ mile from the development and is currently below standard.

The Age Restrictive Development and the Carriage Home Community have separate entrance roads, and the two communities are not interiorly connected. This will increase traffic volumes on our local roads.
